Living in Aguas Verdes means navigating frequent power and internet cuts together. To help our neighborhood stay safe and in touch during these outages, I am sharing my backup internet connection. Powered by a Starlink satellite and a battery (UPS), it stays online even when the power fails. Please think of it as a shared neighborhood lifeline—you are always welcome to connect to it to make emergency Wi-Fi calls or just let your family know you're okay.

In Aguas Verdes zu leben bedeutet, häufige Strom- und Internetausfälle gemeinsam zu bewältigen. Damit unsere Nachbarschaft während dieser Ausfälle sicher und in Kontakt bleibt, teile ich meine Backup-Internetverbindung. Betrieben durch einen Starlink-Satelliten und eine Batterie (USV), bleibt das Netzwerk auch bei Stromausfall online. Bitte betrachtet es als einen gemeinsamen Rettungsanker für die Nachbarschaft – ihr seid jederzeit herzlich eingeladen, euch damit zu verbinden, um WLAN-Notrufe zu tätigen oder einfach eurer Familie Bescheid zu geben, dass es euch gut geht.

Para ayudar a que nuestro vecindario se mantenga seguro y en contacto durante estos apagones, comparto mi conexión a internet de respaldo. Alimentada por un satélite Starlink y una batería (UPS), se mantiene en línea incluso cuando falla la electricidad. How long will the Wi-Fi stay on during a power cut? / Wie lange bleibt das WLAN bei einem Stromausfall an? / ¿Cuánto tiempo dura el Wi-Fi durante un corte de luz?

The backup battery powering the satellite dish will usually last for about 90 minutes to 2 hours. Once the battery is empty, the connection will drop until the main power is restored. Hopefully, this gives us all plenty of time to check in with family and send out any important updates!

To help the battery last as long as possible and ensure everyone gets a fair share of the connection, please avoid streaming videos (like Netflix, YouTube, or TikTok) or downloading large files. The satellite actually drains the battery much faster when it's working hard! Let’s keep the lines clear for everyone's essential needs, like sending messages, checking email, or looking up local utility updates.

Der Satellit verbraucht nämlich viel mehr Strom, wenn er schwer arbeiten muss! Is the SOS signal strong enough to reach inside my house? / Ist das SOS-Signal stark genug, um bis in mein Haus zu reichen? / ¿Es la señal SOS lo suficientemente fuerte para llegar dentro de mi casa?

Very unlikely. The SOS network comes directly from the Starlink router, which is located indoors just below apartment 24M. Because of the thick concrete and block walls we have here in Fuerteventura, the Wi-Fi signal drops off very quickly. To get a stable connection, you will likely need to come near my balcony.

(Please note: This specific battery-powered SOS network is a separate backup system. It does not have the same wide coverage as the other Wi-Fi networks I normally operate throughout the complex).

Yes, your data is completely private. I have set this up strictly as a "Guest Network." This means your devices are safely isolated from my personal home network. I cannot see your personal messages, passwords, or browsing history, and you cannot access any of my smart home devices. It’s just a secure, direct tunnel to the internet for you to use!

When the power goes down, multiple neighbors will likely connect to this emergency network at the same time. Since the total bandwidth is shared among everyone, it might feel a bit slower than your usual home Wi-Fi. However, it will always be enough to get your essential messages out and stay connected!
